Title:     Motivations for Practice, three Personal Odysseys : From Guest to Host
Creator: Blair, Bruce
Catalan subject: Budisme zen
English subject: Zen Buddhism
Abstract:  An important part of Zen training in the Kwan Um Zen School is the taking of Ten Precepts. Taking these precepts makes one a Dharma Teacher in the sangha. To be approved as a Dharma Teacher, the individual (who has previously taken the Five Precepts and become a student in the School) must write a short essay on his or her motivations for practice. Bruce Blair is the Abbot of New Haven Zen Center, where he lives. He is self-employed, placing homeless families throughout the state. He became Dharma Teacher in August, 1989 and this is his essay
