She started study with Maezumi Roshi in 1974, received jukai in 1975, tokudo in 1979, and became a sanctioned teacher and Dharma heir of Maezumi Roshi in 1983. She moved to Portland, Oregon in 1984 and is teacher in residence at the Zen Community of Oregon. She is a pediatrician and medical director of the child abuse programs at Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
